Dual boot with vista

Hi guys.. I'm triyng to use vista... I installed in C partition..and in other partition I've Windows XP sp1 ..but no boot menu was created! Windows XP was present before Vista In other words...run only Vista without dual boot. So, What I can Do to create a boot menu? I saw that in root C: (where is Vista) miss boot.ini file..ntldr and ntdetect
Thanx you!

If you want to install Vista in a dual boot scenario, then you need to begin the Vista install by inserting the DVD while you are running XP. When the install window shows, just follow the directions. If you boot initially from the Vista DVD, it will install with no reference to your XP.

I had no problem booting from the Vista DVD, and I can still dual boot with my previous XP partition. In fact, when I first tried to install Vista by running the setup in XP, it appeared to lock up. So I then decided to boot from the dvd, and I've had no issues.

William, that has not been my experience. I got a boot options screen both ways.

I had that experience with 5308. Since then I have been doing a dual boot running XP. Since I have a second computer running XP, I made the plunge and made my main computer a Vista only PC. I figure with my important information safe, that the best way to find out the good, the bad, and the ugly was to install it as the only operating system on my main PC and use it every day. In a worse case scenario, since my important data is safe, I could just blow away the Vista install completely, and do a clean install of Windows XP Pro with clean new partitions on my hard drives.

Not dual booting also insulates you from some User Access Control issues on drives shared by both XP and Vista as well. But I just thought you ought to know all the variations of installing Vista except the disabled drive scenario will produce the boot options screen.

Usually when XP is there first it resides on partition C. What did you have on C prior to installing XP?

Windows Vista
